Free Family Adventure Trail, Steel City Galaxies, To Run This August

Sheffield, UK 9/8/2023: The Sheffield Games Collective (SGC), a collection of businesses that cater to videogame and board game fans across the city, is running a free Adventure Trail across Sheffield City Centre later this month. The Steel City Galaxies adventure game invites families to blast off across the city, visiting 9 different games-related venues along a 2.5 mile route. The trail has been created by the organisers of last year's successful City of Games Adventure Trail and the 2021 Game City Adventures event, which has seen over 6000 people take part across both events.

Steel City Galaxies casts the players in the role of daring Star Captains, exploring the vast Steely Way galaxy in search of an ancient starship: The Sharman. Whilst doing so, they will encounter mysterious aliens, dastardly Space Pirates and venture deep into the centre of the galaxy, Or if not, they'll still have plenty of fun exploring the city!

Players will start their adventure at Patriot Games on Mary Street, any time from the 21st August. All instructions will be provided on displays located inside and outside each participating venue, which means that the game can be played at any time of day. Would-be space explorers simply need a six-sided die, a strong imagination and the ability to move across the city centre in order to play.

Full details about how the Adventure Trail will work can be found on our website: https://sheffield.games/steel-galaxies

Conor Clarke, Co-founder of the SGC, says "Back by popular demand, we are delighted to be running another one of our adventure game trails! Feedback from last year's event was absolutely stellar, and totally invigorated us to make this one bigger and better. We've chosen a sci-fi theme for this one too, to celebrate the amazing space exploration heritage in Sheffield, such as the inspiring story of Helen Sharman. With lots of discussions recently around the merits of shopping in the city centre, we hope this gives customers of all venues a little bit more reason to support local businesses too."

The Sheffield Games Collective is a collection of businesses, organisations and individuals all based in Sheffield who share a common purpose: to make Sheffield a destination city for gaming. Over 10 businesses that cater to fans of both digital and analogue gaming have been working together since 2020 to build on what the city has to offer in the gaming space and promote this to the widest possible audience. Steel City Galaxies will be their second collaborative event in recent months, after the super successful Charity Game Swap which raised over £2,200 for Roundabout Sheffield.

Steel City Galaxies can be played from the 21st August to the 3rd September 2023 and begins at Patriot Games, Mary Street S1 4RT. The trail is completely free to take part in. All that is required is a six-sided die and plenty of imagination!
