City of Gaming Adventure Trail

Adventurers wanted!

Sheffield Adventure Trail Runs Across October Half Term, in Collaboration with 9 Local, Independent Businesses.

From 21st October, a free family-friendly Adventure Trail will guide players across Sheffield City Centre to tackle an evil Warlock and his Minions of Steel.

Sheffield, UK 12/10/2022: The Sheffield Games Collective (SGC), a collection of businesses that cater to videogame and board game fans across the city, are launching a free Adventure Trail across Sheffield this October Half Term. Families are invited to take part and explore the city, which will see them visiting up to 9 different games-related venues along a 3 mile route.. The trail has been co-created by one of the organisers of last year's Game City Adventure trail, which saw over 5000 people take part across a weekend in October 2021.

The City of Gaming adventure trail tasks would-be adventurers with saving the fabled city of Sheafdale from the evil warlock Ithrick Steelgore and his Minions of Steel. Along their journey, adventurers will gain companions, earn new abilities and hopefully find the key to saving the 'City of Games'. Or if not, they'll still have plenty of fun exploring the city!

Players will start their adventure at the Treehouse Board Game Cafe, any time from the 21st October. All instructions will be provided on displays located inside and outside each venue, which means that the game can be played at any time of day. Would-be adventurers simply need a six-sided die, a strong imagination and the ability to move across the city centre in order to play.

Full details about how the Adventure Trail will work can be found here: Sheffield.games/trail.

Conor Clarke, Co-founder of the SGC, says "After 2 incredibly successful events earlier this year, the Sheffield Games Collective are delighted to be bringing this new family-friendly trail to Sheffield. It's been built from the ground up to celebrate Sheffield's culture and history, as well as its strong board game and videogame heritage. Last year's Game City Adventure Trail was also a huge success, and I'm looking forward to making this an annual event!"

The Sheffield Games Collective is a collection of businesses, organisations and individuals all based in Sheffield who share a common purpose: to make Sheffield a destination city for gaming. Over 10 businesses that cater to fans of both digital and analogue gaming have been working together since 2020 to build on what the city has to offer in the gaming space and promote this to the widest possible audience. The Adventure Trail will be their third collaborative event in recent months, having previously run a successful Charity Game Swap in June, which raised over £1,700 for Roundabout Sheffield, and the Ember Games Expo in July.

The Adventure Game Trail can be played from the 21st October to the 31st October 2022 and begins at the Treehouse Boardgame Cafe, S2 4QF. The trail is completely free to take part in. All that is required is a six-sided die and plenty of imagination!
